Fieldstone buildings in the centre of Laekvere

The most conspicuous part of Laekvere is the set of fieldstone buildings built in the 1920s-1930s. The buildings include a schoolhouse, shop, dairy and fire station, and form a unique ensemble as a historical and cultural monument. Primary building material used was fieldstone which partly came from nearby fields, but majority of the stones came from the former magnificient neo-gothic mansion of the neighbouring Moora manor, which was, however, never quite completed. The buildings were constructed under the management of the master builder Fomin of the Raja village at Lake Peipsi. The buildings are under heritage protection.

At present, the former dairy houses the rural municipality government of Laekvere. The other buildings have preserved their original function.
